Book bags for Daisy

OK, I think they need to be just a tad bigger - just 1cm wider, and maybe 2cm higher.

But what do you think? Am I on the right track, here? :)

LOL - please do excuse the shoddy sewing of the blue patch. I added that once I'd sewed the bag together - big mistake! :)

Roomy enough for fat books :)

and...one long handle, or two smally ones?

I've revived my "other blog" over at word press. If you can, please drop a comment here and there, so it looks like I have fans? I apologise for cross-posting, but "I need to", as Maisie would say :) (really, she *does* say that! How clever is she, now! :)

Ta :)

Lily needed a bag to take her swimming things to Asha's birthday party, so I quickly made her this bag.

Daisy, how um....'finished' do you want your book bags?

This is made from half a pillow case, with straps sewn on. If you are happy to have them as basic as that, then I can run up some for you, quick as. Just let me know and I'll do them this weekend and get them off on Monday with Raphie's little feral top. Haven't started on the pants - is that OK? Reason being is that I don't think I have enough fabric for it. May I improvise?

Well, this is different

I just spent the past hour in the sewing room, as the girls settled into quiet play and silent reading (Lily is great at it!).

What an odd but special feeling it was, to be sewing away with the girls all around me, in their own rooms. I worried a little of the noise I made, but figured that somehow it will etch into their memory as something precious: falling asleep to the sound of Mum sewing.

Now, I'm about to pour myself a glass of wine and eat a microwave dinner - Malaysian Curry Chicken. And don't curse me because there is nothing artificial in it. Amazing really. and they are SO nice!! (edit: except msg. Mmmm....yummy msg :)

I kinda feel like one of those "quit yer day job" women with no children or husband :)

Just a reminder to not panic.

I am loving reacquainting myself with my pretty, pretty fabric.

Remembering the half-started projects, ideas for this and that - ideas that I *still* want to see through.

The pile of ironed, folded stuff. Lovingly making a neat little pile, rather than the thrown-in-the-shelf stash it was.

I've given heaps away. A bagful of useful sized scraps to daycare - they were *delighted*. And how special if some little pieces make it back into our home, in the form of Maisie art :)

Finally made something. In my unpacking the last box I found a pair of small baby trousers that i never got around to selling. Took them out to Maisie and put them on her baby (too long, of course!) Then decided to make some clothes for both girls babies.

Temporary disaster while I couldn't find the presser foot for my machine!!! Ended up finding it in a cockroach haven in the shed - but had to unpack the box before I actually got to it. ugh ugh ugh. But found a few things I'd been wanting and knew were in the box, but had avoided simply because I wasn't game to empty out the box.

Aaaaanyway. This is what I made. Little matching singlets, a blue pair of shorts for him, and a green tropical skirt for her.

The girls are delighted with their new clothes and I'm delighted with myself - I needed to be reminded that making clothes takes so little time! And is so fun, and I LOVE sewing neat little lines :)

I've started :)

Um, just being distracted by pretty billowing blue.

I'm sorting the fabric.  It will be in rainbow order, once I'm done.

While I'm sorting, I'm also....culling.  hard to believe, I know! :)

I really want to finish it off, and now that Lily's boyfriends have gone she wants desperately to help ("I might have some really good ideas, Mum."). but...I'm going to drug myself and take a nap with the girls, all together in my bed.

Cane toad in the freezer.

Shaun came home just before with some of his friends: Felix & Melinda. Asked F if he was any good at toad catching. "Oh yeah! I love catching them. M: "Me too! We always go to the toad busting nights and catch heaps of them!"

I lifted up the fridge and Mel caught it in her bare hands.

Ugh ugh ugh!!!

This is even *after* it secreted it's poison!

and she's a dainty, pretty little thing! and she said that if ever there's another, just catch it in a bucket (upside-down), secure the bucket and she'll come after school to deal with it.

Felix said on their way out: "I'm just around the corner. Just call any time you get another one."

thank god for that! I have teenagers to look after me! LOL

This pic:

the pillowcases I bought today.

Makes me eager to be already turning it into something, like I used to. Over the next two days and tonight, I'll set up that sewing room.

The photo also makes me yearn for Toowoomba's op shops. the shops here just don't compare. I am hanging out for:

- Victoria in June
- Dalby & Toowoomba in September
- Tasmania in November

I can just see that while Maisie naps, I'll be reading back old 'thrifting' and 'fabric' tagged entries.

*sigh*
